Art and the natural world are intricately entwined in New Zealand, and this 7-day tour combines the best of both. Students are transported from the trendy, culture-filled cities of Auckland and Wellington, where world class art museums and bohemian artist’s quarters will inspire them, into the heart of the North Island’s geothermal wilderness. There they will experience the ancient traditions and cultures of Maori communities, who still practice their crafts the same way they have done for centuries. From the steaming geysers and bubbling mud pools of other-worldly Rotorua, to the Art Deco architecture of Napier, this is a journey through different landscapes, different styles and different eras which will broaden student’s minds and create a long-lasting impression.
New Zealand’s fascinating geography is the focus of this action-packed tour. Students will experience first-hand the country’s most incredible landscapes, where vast volcanoes, fjords, and great lakes create a picture of an ancient and ever-changing land. We will travel from Auckland’s black sand beaches, to Rotorua’s astounding geothermal displays, before heading to South Island and its grand vistas. Students will cruise through glacier-carved Milford Sound, travel through the dramatic Fiordland National Park, and enjoy a historic steamboat cruise across Lake Wakatipu, before ending their trip in Christchurch.
